The resume is the document in which you have to synthesize your work experience and quality in a schematic way. It is essential to better organize the space and content. Your resume should be simple, concise and easy to read.

Knowing how to write a resume is a very important part in any process of looking for a job. It is the first filter used by human resource managers, then, how much better it is prepared and presented, the greater your chances of being successful in an interview.

How to Write a Resume

To write a good resume, the first thing you need to know and be clear about is its structure and what kind of information you have to add in every part. Remember that what you write on your resume is what the interviewer considers and then confirms about you, in this case you are called to support a job interview, and the interviewer can ask you anything that you have included in the resume.


The resume should contain three main areas:

  • Personal data
  • Educational background
  • Work experience

To these can be added a fourth area: hobby and after-work activities, this is optional and minor compared to the previous sections, and this section is to be located at the end of the document.

How you should structure while you write a resume?

A good resume does not exceed 2-3 pages (unless your experiences and skills should not necessarily be more specified and require less pages).

Some useful information on how to write a resume:

  1. Remember to write first of all your personal details (name, surname, date and place of birth, marital status, address) and telephone number and e-mail.
  2. The studies showed that by adopting a criterion reverse chronological order, that is starting from the last title obtained and working backward, you have better chances to b recognized as suitable candidate. For each title must be given a year of achievement, the institution that issued. Graduates must strictly indicate the degree mark and the title of the thesis. If you have made training courses and specialization, they must be given the title of the course, its duration, the organizer and the eventual final score.
  3. The work experience must be listed by starting with the most recent one, going in reverse chronological order up to the oldest. You must specify the ‘company and the position, you can also provide a brief description of the primary and the annual turnover of the company. Also specify the name of the task you performed, explaining briefly the type of position you occupied. Avoid leaving time periods gaps in work experience. If over a period of time it has taken advantage of the lack of work to attend a specialization course or a master, write it in the work experience.
  4. For every known language specify your level in reading, comprehension and oral expression. Normally you use the following five levels: native, very good, good, fair, basic level. If you possess language certificates recognized internationally you should also indicate service provider and date of graduation.
  5. Specify the computer skills, programming languages known, operating systems and software packages used, specific experiences of graphic programs, management, database, etc. Do mention training courses attended and any statement obtained.
  6. Avoid writing long sentences and very long periods. Be concise.
  7. Do not attach photos unless they are required.
  8. Attach references only if required.
  9. Never talk about compensation.
  10. Address the document possibly in people and not institutions, companies or organizations.
  11. Disregard irrelevant information.
  12. Pay attention to spelling.
  13. The best thing is to print with the black ink on white paper of A4 size.
  14. Avoid too abundant or too low margins.
  15. Do not use a font size less than 11 points.
  16. Affix always in the back of the CV the date and signature.
